Welcome to September...

As you read this newsletter you may have heard school buses this morning, or better
yet, been part of the carpool line with your grandchildren or just moved someone into
their dorm at college for their first year. As fall approaches, the seasons begin to
change. The days are not as hot, and the nights are comfortable. It is about time to
aerate and overseed your lawn as we do in the South. Get ready to go through your
closets and begin to change out the summer clothes for some long sleeve shirts and
logo sweatshirts. And don't forget sneakers instead of sandals and flipflops.

Our next Welcome Coffee will be held on September 11th at the Southpark
Regional Library. If you know anyone interested in learning more about our club, please
invite them to attend. There will be a short presentation highlighting all of the wonderful events our club offers. If you are an Interest Chair, or a new member, or have never attended a coffee, please register on the website. We would love to have you join us at 11:15 am.

I hope that you will decide to register for BUNCO MADNESS on September 13th.  It promises to be a fun-filled night with an abundance of appetizers and desserts, and you might even win some money!  Another exciting September event is the luncheon at the Speedway Club at the Charlotte Motor Speedway.

Thank you to everyone who has sent cards, texts, made phone calls or provided meals to our members who are home recovering from surgery.  They are so appreciated.  Do not forget we will be celebrating our July and August birthdays at the August luncheon at Red Rocks next week.  I will also recognize the July picnic basket participants with a small gift.

Enjoy the beginning of the changing of the season as fall approaches.

Jeanne Deiger, President
New Friends of Carolina

Getting To Know You...

Noelle Picozzi

What's your favorite sport or team?  My favorite sports team is the Philadelphia Eagles!  We used to be season ticket holders before moving here 8 years ago from a suburb of Philly.  Beyond that, it's any sport my kids played while growing up!

What's your best habit?  Personal growth, I have been obsessed with it since I was in high school!  My life motto is learn, grow, and change and I have master's degrees in both clinical social work and education.  Sadly, my youngest son just left for college and now I am deciding if I want to continue the counseling career I had before having kids and how I want to proceed with the three books I wrote on the Growth Mindset.

Are you a city person or a country person and why?  I am definitely a suburban girl; I like to live close to a city but not right in the city.  I like access to all a city offers without living in the crowd and chaos.

What is your talent?  Helping others, I have tried to make things better for as long as I can remember.

What's your favorite tradition?  On New Year's Eve, my family and I buy lots of balloons, enough so that we can all pop one starting at 4:00 and continuing until midnight, we do a "10, 9, 8 countdown each hour as we count down to our hourly pops.  We hang out together all day, eating everyone's favorite picky foods and watching New Year's specials.

Go-to Karaoke song?  I don't do Karaoke, but I would say a song that means a great deal to me is "I Surrender" by Hillsong Worship.  God brought me that song during a crisis my family had to face in 2016 and I listened to that song over and over, releasing all control to God who helped us endure that crisis in the best way possible.

Come join us for
